A blog was something I’d considered launching for sometime now, though never fully coming around to it. I’ve been active in the usual places online: Twitter, Reddit, comment sections of various blogs and news outlets. However, that activity was always one where I’d been hitching onto conversations others had started and often times the nature of leaving comments was one revolving around short-form, occasionally sarcastic, sometimes cruel, and often lacking the attention span(or in the case of Twitter, lacking remaining characters) which left discussions stumped.
There was always the feeling that when I could put in my long-form response, with all the relevant information, citations, and key figures to contribute to a substantial discussion, there’d likely be few bothering to read beyond the first few sentences(assuming I didn’t have a tl;dr for them to look at). I didn’t mind it since there might still be a few who would read it, either then or someday in the future, but even then there was no guarantee the comment would see the light of day in the saturation nor guarantee of any kind of feedback beyond the few compliments received for a “well-thought write up”.
While I’d continued procrastinating despite the nagging feeling mentioned, I finally decided this would be the year I would actually setup a blog and also felt confident in the theme of the blog. Inspiration struck while reading a few different blogs/newsletters like the NonZero Newsletter, InsiderNJ, and War on the Rocks. There wasn’t necessarily a common factor between them that provided the inspiration but different aspects of each of the listed, which are only a part of all the newsletters and blogs I frequently read, that had me considering making something of my own.
If you’ve read this far and haven’t look at the About page, I encourage you to pop on over and give that page a read too. This post is mostly to kick off this blog and explain why I’m getting started, but you’ll find out more about what this blog is actually about on that page, beyond the site title and tagline. I’m not sure how frequent I’ll be posting or whether I’ll even have a schedule for a while, but I do recommend subscribing or at least bookmarking the site if you’ve found the purpose of the blog on the About page to be something you’re interested in reading on, whether to support or critique.
